ABOUTPolicy Incubator is our 6-month fellowship program, designed to connect young people, policy makers and experts in developing youth-led policy ideas. In our pilot program, we will select ten young people that will be mentored by experts as they identify a problem in their community, develop a policy solution, and lobby for their idea.
AIMMaking policy making more accessible for young people.
OBJECTIVETo equip young people for policymaking, including conducting research on a policy issue, developing a policy solution and lobbying for their policy ideas.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Young people living in Australia aged 18-29 who have limited experience in policy but are interested in learning how to develop policy solutions and take their policy ideas to the next level. We welcome applicants from any academic discipline (business, arts, law, science, engineering, etc) and at any stage of life, whether studying or working. We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, including women and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The application process will ask fellows to identify a problem in their community that they want to explore and develop a solution.
The expected commitment hours for fellows are 5–10 hours a week for six months. These hours include mentorship, self-directed research, writing, networking, workshops, socials and all program events. We support and encourage break and tailor our program according to university schedules.

OUR PROGRAM STREAMS
General Stream
Our general stream allows fellows to develop policy ideas in their own area of interest. Here, we aim to pair fellows with mentors of a related field of research. In your application, you will be asked about a policy issue that you observe or experience in your community and your initial ideas for a solution.

Policy for Women Stream
If you are interested in women and gender policy, this is for you. We welcome anyone to apply for this stream. We tailor events and programs for this stream specifically to the subject of gender inclusion. This stream is a collaboration between organisations (which will be announced early April) and with Dr Leah Ruppanner's research team. Here, Policy for Women fellows are also Dr Ruppanner's Research Analysts with the same time commitment overall. This collaboration will allow fellows to extend their publicity and impact.

OUR PROGRAM
Fellows will work independently on their research in their own time (remotely). We tailor our program according to study schedules.
|
Fellows are closely supported by a Gen:P mentor who will review drafts and provide feedbacks. Our Gen:P mentors will support fellows with development and resources that they need throughout the program.
|
A fellow will be paired with an academic mentor and will have a monthly 30-min catch-up's over the course of six months. This mentorship is to support fellows in developing a convincing research.
|
A fellow will also be paired and guided by a policy practitioner mentor (from public or private sector) and will have two 30-min consultations in the last two months of the program. This mentorship is to support fellows in developing a policy proposal that is engaging and targeted.
|
Fellows will participate in six workshops over the six-month period (90 minutes each). Our workshops are aimed at empowering fellows, including policy fundamentals and a pragmatic approach to policymaking. Each workshop is tailored to the relevant stages of the program.
|
Fellows are considered part of the community and are granted full access to Gen:P outlets and resources to further their outreach, including submitting opinion piece on our website, speaking on our podcast, getting interviewed on our social media platforms, speaking at panels and much more!
